About me

As an undergraduate in the US, I was a pre-med, neuroimaging researcher. Near the end of my degree, I had a sudden epiphany that I wanted to study deep learning, so I moved to Edinburgh in 2014 and did a master's (focused on Hessian-free optimization in LSTMs) and a PhD supervised by Steve Renals and Iain Murray (focused on multiplicative LSTM and dynamic evaluation). I started as a research scientist at Salesforce in Fall 2019. I have been researching language models for the past 5+ years because they are so general and can be applied in so many different ways. My goal as a researcher is to use deep learning and language modeling to make important contributions to science.
